When country music was music, George Jones would take the Grand Ole Opry stage wearing a fine western suit and million-dollar smile.

What would it have been like to watch “The Possum” sing so nicely that everyone in the old country church listened with bated breath, trying not to blink or miss a note?

“I’ve had choices since the day that I was born; there were voices that told me right from wrong,” he’d croon as only a Texan could. “If I had listened, no, I wouldn’t be here today — living and dying with the choices I’ve made.”
